Cala en Turqueta

Cala en Turqueta

Cala Turqueta is for many the most beautiful cove on the island, with the permission of Cala Pregonda. It is a small beach with blue waters with a white sand bottom surrounded by pine trees and divided into two parts by low-lying rocks. The name Turqueta comes from the color of the water, reminiscent of the clearest and most crystalline turquoise.

Due to its orientation, in summer the shade reaches it a little earlier than the rest of the beaches, which usually empties itself soon. If you like to be on the beach even when it is not sunny you will love Cala Turqueta, since at sunset there are only a few people left and the sailboats anchored in the bay.

How to get

To get to Cala Turqueta, take the Camí de Sant Joan de Missa from Ciudadela and follow the signs. Once you get to the car park, you are only 10 minutes from reaching a paradisiacal beach, which illustrates many postcards of the island. Although Cala Turqueta is a virgin beach, in the parking you can find a small bar / beach bar with bathrooms where they sell sandwiches and drinks.

Once there

if you go to Cala Turqueta, try not to go at the end of the afternoon, as it is a beach where the sun sets quite early. On the other hand, if you try to go at noon, you may find yourself in a full parking lot. So if you like to spend many hours on the beach, it is best to go first thing in the morning. In case you go in the afternoon, the best you can do is settle down, facing the sea, as far to the left as possible, since you will have 30 minutes or 1 hour more of sun than if you stay at the beginning of the beach .

One of the main problems with Turqueta is that it allows the mini-cruises that leave from Ciutadella to unload a lot of tourists in a very short time. These cruises usually arrive in the morning or at noon, and because of the number of people who arrive suddenly, the beach becomes even more crowded. You can get an idea of what the beach looks like in the photos below.
